Winemaker's dinner Podrumi vukoje

In the sun-drenched far south-west of Herzegovina, just 30 kilometres from Dubrovnik and close to the border with Montenegro, in the Trebišnjica river valley lies the town of Trebinje. Here, on the prestigious Zasad Polje, are the vineyards of Podrumi Vukoje 1982, the absolute figurehead of Bosnian-Herzegovinian viticulture.

Here, the winery has around 25 hectares of vineyards, planted with vigorous blue grape varieties such as vranac, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and pinot noir. South of Trebinje, in Ušće, is another exclusive 2.2-hectare plot dedicated entirely to the indigenous white grape žilavka - a true expression of terroir and tradition.

Podrumi Vukoje is a family-run business, run by owner and winemaker Radovan Vukoje. After his training in Belgrade and Italy, and internships at leading

the Italian wineries, he had one clear mission: to create wines that could rival the international top. With success. Today, Podrumi Vukoje is not only Bosnia-Herzegovina's most awarded winery, but also a fixture on the European export market.

The state-of-the-art wijnhuis, with six floors, two of which are underground, offers perfect conditions for vinification and ageing. Visitors are immersed in luxury and experience, with a tasting room, a gourmet restaurant, an art gallery and a spectacular rooftop terrace overlooking the vineyards of Zasad Polje. A visit to Podrumi Vukoje is not just a wine tasting, but a total experience.

A special crown jewel is the vineyard in Ušće. Between 1894 and the founding of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, this plot belonged to the Habsburg Court. After careful research, this location was declared the ideal place for growing žilavka. The wines were served exclusively to the imperial court.

In 2008, Podrumi Vukoje 1982 revived this legendary wine with Carsko Vino: an imperial wine, produced according to historical recipe but with modern precision and finesse.
